Shazam! – Product Review – iPhone, iPod Touch Application
Shazam is one of those apps that can “listen” to a piece of music and then pull up the song title for you. It’s convenient if you hear a song on the radio you like but don’t know the name of. Or maybe the song you just can’t put your finger on is in a TV commercial? Regardless of the song’s source, this app is meant to hunt it down for you.
But from my personal experience, a lot of these apps don’t work very well. When you play a clip of a song, it just goes completely wrong in the results. But Shazam is a welcome exception.
In fact, Shazam works scarily well. It can pick out a song from just about anywhere. If you have the TV on and you let Shazam “tag” it, even with talking in the room, it will pick up the song.
I tried it out with just my iTunes playing. I stood a good ways away from the computer with my iPhone in hand and pressed “Tag.” It only took a few seconds for Shazam to come back with accurate results. To say the least, I was impressed!

Shazam, listening to your music

Shazam identifies the song
Once Shazam has identified your song, you’re then given the option to preview it or purchase and download it from iTunes. You are also presented with relevant YouTube results.

Buy it from iTunes, see Video on YouTube...
Other features include the ability to take a photo and attach it to your tagged song, or attach a photo that’s currently in your iPhone album. You can even share your Tags.

Shazam is a pretty solitary function application, but it’s free and does what it’s designed for well. And hey, that’s more than some paid apps provide!
