It seems like everyone is Twittering these days and now you can keep better track of those you’re following by using Twinkle by Tapulous. The makers of Tap Tap Revenge have created an app here that is both easy to use and fun.
When it comes to interaction, this app provides it. All you need to do to begin is to create a username and fill in your email address. Now you can start posting!
It’s very much like Twitter in that you only have 140 characters to get across what you want to say, but it holds one distinct difference—Twinkle is all about connecting you with those in your general vicinity.
You can see what people near you are up to, view their pictures and even send them private messages or ping them. It’s a fun way to pass the time and connect with people you might actually see face-to-face one day.
However, you can sync up your regular Twitter account with Twinkle as well, just to keep everything in one convenient location.
Just a word of warning: there are often people either posting nude photographs or requesting that you rate their pictures on Twinkle. You can easily avoid these by choosing to block the users that post such messages, but it’s better to be forewarned, wouldn’t you say?
All in all, Twinkle is a decent app and it’s free, so there’s no risk involved. Just watch out for inconsiderate posters and people that pester you via private message. Clicking “Block” should be enough to get rid of them!
Shazam is one of those apps that can “listen” to a piece of music and then pull up the song title for you. It’s convenient if you hear a song on the radio you like but don’t know the name of. Or maybe the song you just can’t put your finger on is in a TV commercial? Regardless of the song’s source, this app is meant to hunt it down for you.
But from my personal experience, a lot of these apps don’t work very well. When you play a clip of a song, it just goes completely wrong in the results. But Shazam is a welcome exception.
In fact, Shazam works scarily well. It can pick out a song from just about anywhere. If you have the TV on and you let Shazam “tag” it, even with talking in the room, it will pick up the song.
I tried it out with just my iTunes playing. I stood a good ways away from the computer with my iPhone in hand and pressed “Tag.” It only took a few seconds for Shazam to come back with accurate results. To say the least, I was impressed!
Shazam, listening to your music
Shazam identifies the song
Once Shazam has identified your song, you’re then given the option to preview it or purchase and download it from iTunes. You are also presented with relevant YouTube results.
Buy it from iTunes, see Video on YouTube...
Other features include the ability to take a photo and attach it to your tagged song, or attach a photo that’s currently in your iPhone album. You can even share your Tags.

Shazam is a pretty solitary function application, but it’s free and does what it’s designed for well. And hey, that’s more than some paid apps provide!
Everyone has been asking for this. Cut and Paste. Seems simple really, everyone expected it to just be there and to WORK across applications etc. Well, weren’t we all surprised when it didn’t work like that!
Enter Ryan, iSpazio and the fabulous ‘Clippy’ – (we don’t mean that annoying animated paperclip office assistant ‘Clippy‘ from years gone by!). I thank you on behalf of all iPod users around the globe. Clippy works just like you would expect, select text, copy it, then paste it. Well, mostly like that. The actual ‘copy’ function and ‘paste’ function are on the ’123′ button. So there is one extra step to cut and past – select text, tap ’123′ button, select ‘copy’ button. And then go on your merry way and when you want to paste it (in any other application …..except for safari, so far) you simply select the ’123′ button and then select ‘paste’ – la voila, cut and paste!
Clippy - Copy Paste for the iPod
While still officially a beta product, Clippy is available in Cydia in the iSpazio repository which can be found here
So – the moment you have all been waiting for…the verdict…..pretty damn good! I think I would use this one quite a bit.
A jailbreak for the iPod Touch 2G appears imminent! the gang over at ‘Dev-Team‘ has been hard at it again, providing the world with the best in iPod breakage!
Known as ‘redsn0w’ the new Jailbreak has an established FAQ and a couple videos of it in action – unfortuneatly, for the time being, it is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you won’t be able to get it and use it yourself (if you could use redsn0w, you would probably have developed your own jailbreak!). musclenerd at Dev-Team is working hard on the exploit to make it consumer friendly, but, for the time being I am afraid you will have to enjoy it in the video only….(not like you don’t enjoy yourself watching ‘other’ videos
The FAQ above was derived from all the questions asked after their launch video – here is my favorite excerpt!
Apple released a new update to the iPhonefirmware – version 2.2.1 for iPod touch, iPod touch 2G, iPhone and iPhone 3G to fix a bunch of minor bugs and security problems. For those of you that have Jailbroken your iPod or iPhone, you MUST NOT install this update as it will ‘un-jailbreak’ your unit and you will NOT be able to Jailbreak it again. Here is the warning from the iPhone Dev Team guys who have stated that it does break yellowsn0w.
Even though the list of fixes is small, it is still quite a big downloadat 250 MB – about the same size as the 2.2 update which had far more significant changes to it.
Despite the small list, the update is just as big as the 2.2 update, at 246.4MB.
There is an interesting poll going on over at ipodtouchfans.com guessing at who will ‘jailbreak’ 2.2.1 first:
iPhone Dev Team – 53%
Chronic Dev – 18%
the official announcement is:

The big fix that most people will be happy to see is some added stability in Safari, because it sure seemed to crach alot on the iPhone in version 2.2. Other fixes include: images copied from apple mail, an update to the model firmware. And thanks to iPhoneHacks.com for the following piece of news:
As per this Apple discussion thread a nasty SMS related bug has been fixed which was not documented in the release notes. The bug which suddenly prevented users from sending SMS text messages on the iPhone 3G. So if you received the message “Error Sending Message” while attempting to sending an SMS and have upgraded to the latest firmware update, let us know if it has resolved the issue.
In case of iPod Touch users, iPhone firmware 2.2.1 will fix the issue that caused some Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio files to skip during playback
Well, I have decided to join the fray and provide product reviews here at appleipodz. I will try to review EVERYTHING I possibly can and draw on the experiences of others to provide realistic reviews. I will even try to ‘pass judgement’ if I can and let you know whether or not something sucks (but come on, really, does anything suck on an iPod/iPhone!?!?!)
If there is an application in particular that you are curious about, comment here and I will get my hands on it and do a review.
If you are interested in having your product reviewed, well, post here too and I will contact you for the particulars.
I will kick things off with a review of ‘Clippy’…next post I assure you!
